1. What time did you get up this morning?
This morning, I got up about 11:30am. Of course, I’d gone to bed at 5am, having been working since midnight, so its hardly typical. Usually, I get up between 6am and 6:30am.
2. Diamonds or pearls?
Of those choices, diamonds, because, you know, sparkle. But I much prefer sapphires or emeralds. Give me sparkle *with* colour.
3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, which was marvelous.
4. What’s your favorite TV show? /
What a hard thing to choose. All-time, probably Firefly. Currently on the air? Tossup between House for Drama and How I Met Your Mother for comedy.
5. What did you have for breakfast this morning?
Nothing. I got up late enough that I went straight to lunch. (Two cheeseburgers and a diet limeade from Sonic, picked up on the way into work.)
6. What’s your favorite cuisine?
Again, very hard to choose. I love all kinds of foods, and variety is the spice of life. If you asked me what I was craving most *right now*, I’d probably say Japanese. But ask me tomorrow and I may have an entirely different answer.
7. What foods do you dislike?
Liver. Never could stand the stuff.
8. What is your favorite chip flavor?
I tend to prefer non-flavoured chips, as a rule. Some salt, and maybe some cracked black pepper if I want something with a bit more bite to it.
9. What’s your favorite CD at the moment?
Funny thing, I don’t tend to listen to CDs as discrete units right now. Being able to shuffle an entire record collection easily means that I tend to listen to a wide variety of music at all times, rather than being forced to listen to blocks of things in a row. The good part of this is that I get to hear stuff in my collection that might otherwise never rattle the speakers. The bad part of this is that its hard to answer questions like “What’s your favourite CD at the moment. π
10. What kind of car do you drive?
A 1998 Ford Taurus, which I purchased used in 2001. It’ll be paid for in December.
11. Favorite sandwich?
Roast beef and bacon, or a *good* grilled cheese. I need to buy another sandwich press, so I can make proper grilled cheese sandwiches again.
12. What characteristics do you despise?
Hypocrisy. Disloyalty. Being unwilling to take responsibility for ones own crap.
13. What is your favorite type of clothing?
I like soft, loose, comfortable clothing that looks good on me. Given an unlimited budget to buy clothing, I could be quite the clothes horse, but alas, my budget is finite. I tend to have a good eye for colours though, and pick things that look good on me for the most part.
14. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go?
For me, its not so much about where, as who. So, the top destinations on my list are, in no especial order, Michigan, Illinois, California, Kentucky, North Carolina, and always England.
15. What color is your bathroom?
White, alas. Renting means not being able to choose your own colours. There is, however, a giant black and blue tapestry towel on the wall, which does accent it a bit.
16. Favorite brand of clothing?
George Forman’s line of clothing for Casual Male Big&Tall has some really nice pieces in it. I don’t tend to be very brand conscious, but I have liked everything from that line that I’ve bought.
17. Where would you retire to?
If I was independently wealthy, I’d retire to the United Kingdom. Assuming, of course, that I could get kitanzi to agree.
18. Favorite time of the day?
Twilight.
19. What was your most memorable birthday?
Good memory: I turned 18 in Muncie, Indiana, at the International Thespian Society festival at Ball State University. It was the next to last day we were to be there, and I was walking around the campus with Shanon, a lovely girl from Utah that I had met earlier in the week and had been pretty much exclusively spending time with. We passed a group singing happy birthday to someone, and she turned to me and said “Oh right, its your birthday today, isn’t it?” And it was, but I had forgotten up until she pointed it out.
Bad memory: I remember vividly waking up on my 30th birthday, and taking stock of myself. I realized that I was miserable and needed to enact a change in my situation, and that I desperately did not want to wake up one day and realize I was 40 and still miserable.
20. Where were you born?
I was born in Winsor, North Carolina, and spent the first 18 years of my life living in Williamston, NC.
21. Favorite sport to watch?
Baseball. I don’t tend to watch it as religiously as I did in younger days, but it’s still my all-time favourite sport.
22. Who do you least expect to send this back to you?
Heck, I don’t even expect anyone to read this, let alone bother to repost it. π
23. Person you expect to send it back first?
See #22.
24. What laundry detergent do you use?
Liquid Free-and-Clear All
25. Were you named after anyone?
Well, there was an actor named Robert Taylor, but in truth, my mother says that she was willing to name me anything other than after my father. His name was Arthur, and to be fair, he didn’t go by his first name either. π (No offense to anyone actually named Arthur. I just don’t know that it would have fit me well.)
26. Do you wish on stars?
All the time.
27. When did you last cry?
Last night.
28. Do you like your handwriting?
Not really. It’s rude and surly, and is always trying to borrow money that it has no intention of paying back. (Also, its largely illegible)
29. If you were another person, would YOU be friends with you?
Well, that depends. I mean, if I were another person, who knows what I might like? I’d be a different person.
Oh wait, I see. Am I the sort of person that I would personally like? I think so. I strive to be the sort of person that I’d like to know, and that others will like.
30. Are you a daredevil?
No. I’m not even a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
31. Do looks matter?
To whom, and for what? I think they do, but not as much as many people thing. For one thing, everyone’s tastes are different. (I’ve had to argue with more than one of my sweeties about whether or not they were beautiful or pretty. No matter how many times I tell them, they can’t seem to look past their own prejudices to comprehend that *I* like what I see.
Having said that, there are things that are *more* important than looks to me. Intelligence, sense of humour, being a good conversationalist, being a person of honour and integrity…those things are more important to me than any amount of conventional beauty.
32. How do you release anger?
Very slowly. While I’m sometimes prone to loud outbursts in moments of irritation, *real* anger is a slow boil for me, and very quiet. On the plus side, I don’t get angry very often. It takes a lot to get me to that point.
33. Where is your second home?
I have a couple. Don and Dina’s home is definitely one of them. Anne and fleetfootmike‘s is another. In both cases, it has a lot more to do with a feeling of being surrounded by family than anything to do with the physical structures.
34. What were your favorite toys as a child?
My Star Wars stuff, my GI Joe collection, and my Matchbox cars. I was such a little boy.
35. What class in high school was totally useless?
I’m not sure I had a totally useless class in high school. I had a fairly useless biology teacher, but I think the subject matter was worth studying, even if she did manage to take all the joy out of it.
37. Favorite movies?
The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain, The Princess Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean, Chicago, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, The Big Lebowski, Star Wars, The Fisher King, Galaxy Quest, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou? to name a dozen off the top of my head.
38. What are your nicknames?
I’m known as “Doc” on IRC, and “Autographedcat” or “ACat” other places on the Internet. I’m always amused when those nicknames turn into RL ones…I’ve had people actually call me ACat in casual conversation.
39. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?
Not usually. It’s not good for them, but I got into bad habits as a youth.
40. Do you think that you are strong?
In the physical sense, stronger than average, but not exceptionally. Emotionally…I’d have said yes until recently, but I’m not so sure. In my commitment to my principles….very strong.
41. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Another one that’s hard to choose. Ben and Jerry’s had an Oatmeal cookie and caramel ice cream flavour that was too good to be legal. And chocolate is always good.
42. What are your favorite colors?
I like cool bright jewel colours: blues, violets, greens. I sometimes wear warm colours, but only if they’re fairly muted, and I tend to avoid earth tones.
43. What is your least favorite thing about yourself?
That I am sometimes (often?) unable to live up to my own expectations of myself.
44. Who do you miss the most?
Wow, I miss a lot of people, who live too far away. If I had to pick one single person above all others, I’d probably say Dina. I had gotten used to seeing her on a regular basis, before they moved to Kentucky.
45. Do you want everyone you sent this to, to send it back?
Well, since I’m not sending it to anyone, I don’t expect anyone to send it back.
46. What color pants are you wearing?
I’m not currently wearing any pants.
47. What are you listening to right now?
Cowboy Junkies, “Mining for Gold”

Sausage and mushrooms in a vodka sauce over rotini.
49. If you were a CRAYON what color would you be?
I’m the whole box of 64, baby….
50. Last person you talked to on the phone?
eloren, who called me last night about a work-related issue.
52. Favorite Drink?
Whiskey sour.
53. Do you wear contacts?
Nope. I wear glasses, and I admit I’ve never been tempted by contacts, because the idea of putting something into my eye on purpose makes me twitch.
54. Favorite Day of the Year?
The Thursday before OVFF.
55. Scary Movies or Happy Endings?
Happy endings. I like them in life, too.
56. Summer or winter?
Winter. I’m not a big heat fan, honestly. Though, to be fair, I’ll take Autumn over either one.
57. Hugs OR Kisses?
I embrace the power of “and”.
58. What is Your Favorite Dessert?
Crème Brûlée.
59. What Book(s) are you reading.?
Currently, I’m in the middle of Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, the newest book from Malcolm Gladwell, who also wrote The Tipping Point. It’s fascinating reading. Also in the middle of Judith Levine’s Harmful To Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children From Sex.
60. What is on your mouse pad?
I don’t have a mouse pad. I have a trackball, which doesn’t require one.
61. What Did You Watch Last night on TV?
The most recent episode of CSI:NY.
62. Favorite Smells?
Vanilla, cinnamon, and honey.
63. Rolling Stones or Beatles?
I like both bands, but choosing between them, I’d have to say the Beatles. I like a lot of select Stones tracks, but nowhere near the percentage of Beatles songs that I absolutely love.
64. What’s the furthest you’ve been from home?
Never measured the precise distances, but I imagine that Ipswich, UK, for the 15th UK Filkcon, is the furthest in sheer distance.
65. Do you have plans this weekend?
Yes! Dinner with joyeuse13, abovenyquist, and curiousmay9! Yay!
